Festivals: A Boon or Bane?

Festivals are like lights in our life. Festivals totally rejuvenate us and give us the opportunity to meet our family and friends. Though festivals are joyous occasions and they enrich our customs and traditions, we have been celebrating them in a way that it tends to harm our environment in the form of pollution.

On festivals like Diwali and Dussehra, we have made it a tradition to burn crackers, or burn the effigy of Ravan, which causes a lot of pollution in the air, and people suffering from respiratory diseases face great difficulty in breathing. On the festival of Holi, we waste a lot of water whereas on Ganesh Chaturthi we pollute the water by immersing idols in the rivers.

Though these festivals are a boon for us, they are gradually becoming a bane for the environment, therefore I think we should impose proper rules and guidelines so that we celebrate environment-friendly festivals.
